data-encryption.jpgVital data is lost when laptops are stolen and in many cases it is found that burglars are stealing the laptops for the instrument rather than the data. The reckless employees with weak security policies are easily falling prey to low-tech street laptop burglars. The Department of Veterans Affairs, has recently lost information on 26.5 million veterans and military personnel stored in a laptop and external drive. Use of Encryption, (which scrambles the information and would render it useless to a thief without digital key that decrypts the data) to secure the data can save the data in case of laptop lapses, which is not done by many. Microsoft's Windows Vista operating system, due late this year for businesses and early next year for consumers, is expected to make it easier for users to encrypt all their data.
